We are living in a day that darkness is encroaching around us. Many people are living in that darkness and their eyes are not open to the truth so the darkness is all they know.
Even Christians, open the windows of their soul (the eyes) to many things that are dark and so in Matt.6 Jesus talks about the darkness that potentially invades the deep places of the soul and the whole body becomes filled with darkness.
I hear the New Age people and those of the psychic world refer to “a light” but the light they recognize is not the light that is Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in John 8:12 (KJV) …I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (followeth=to follow in union, as a disciple)
So, just because you hear people refer to “a light” does not necessarily mean they are walking in “the light of life”. You have to follow with Him in order to walk in true light. The world may experience a place of tranquility, or a place of knowledge but never know the true light. 2 Timothy 3:7 talks about a people that are ever-learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
We live in a time when the terminology of the church is very familiar in a society of religions that walk in darkness because they do not follow Jesus (the Light). They are very familiar with biblical terminologies that we have used over the years to describe the experiences of the Kingdom of God. Terms like, born again, joy of living, spirit-filled, set apart…and so on. I hear the world use these terms all the time to describe experiences that are separate from a true relationship with the Lord of Glory. So, we need to stay aware that there are many deceptions in the world that we live in. Deceptions that will lead, even true believers, into dark bondage.
Many people are searching desperately for fulfillment and comfort in their life and become ensnared by counterfeits that use languages that sound lofty enough to be truth but are deceptions that become lifelong bondages.
I refer to this desperate search as “a God-sized whole in their heart”. Only the true and Living Lord of Glory can fill that cavity.
Paul explained, in the book of Ephesians, the meaning of “walking in the light of the Lord” and what it truly involves.
Ephesians 5:8-13 (Amplified Bible)
8 For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].
9 For the fruit (the effect, the product) of the Light or the Spirit [consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life.
10 And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].
11 Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in contrast as to] expose and reprove and convict them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of or mention the things that [such people] practice in secret.
13 But when anything is exposed and reproved by the light, it is made visible and clear; and where everything is visible and clear there is light.
Recently, as I returned home from an errand. I heard the Lord speak to me the thought above ”living in the light, on purpose”
As I began to meditate before the Lord and wait upon Him, He began to speak to me regarding this “light of purpose”.
Many of us have no understanding of the fact that God has predestined our existence for His Kingdoms purpose. Rather, we seem to think that we are an accident of our parent’s passions, born to find happiness for ourselves, enjoy our short years, die and go to heaven and that’s it.
God purposed mankind before the beginning. But in the beginning He carefully planned and created a planet before He created and placed mankind…
1st day-night & day
2nd day-sky & sea
3rd day-land & vegetation
4th day-stars, sun, moon
5th day-sea creatures including fish and birds
6th day-animals & mankind
7th day-God rested.
In the 6th day He said…Genesis 1:26-31 (KJV) 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue (conquer) it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth… And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Notice…God didn’t create man 1st, He created mankind “after” He had created the “light” (as well as the necessary provisions) for mankind to live and dwell in.
Even though this refers to a “natural” light, it also speaks to us of “the light of God” that He has provided for us to live in.
Eph. 5:8 tells us to “walk as children of the light”
Everything that God does, He does with purpose, to show us a better way, His way. So, we also, need to strive to live and do all things with “purpose”. We don’t always know and understand His purposes but as we pursue after His heart, His purposes become clearer to us and that “vision” enables and empowers us to live within HIS purposes and move through life with “purpose”.
2 Peter 1:3 (Amplified Bible)
3 For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
