I have spent a good portion of my adult life reviewing terrorism, counter terrorism, and anti- terrorist activity. Special weapons and tactics were learned, practiced, put into use, and eventually instructed. When the towers came down on 9/11 I already knew what to do. I had studied what would happen in such an event and was able to advise my superiors on a course of action. I knew what to do, in the natural.
As a Christian I knew Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
I knew how to wear, and war, in body armor but not in Spiritual Armor; the Full Armor of God. This took a whole new set of weapons, skills, and practice. Skills found in an entirely different manual; The Holy Bible.
Fighting terrorism in the natural you need to be right 100% of the time. This is not possible and therefore there are casualties. Fighting a spiritual fight, God needs to be right 100% of the time. This is not only possible; it is impossible for it not to be so. Therefore, our confidence is in Him.
Gen. Jerry Boykins led our fight on terror. He is also an ordained minister. Recently I saw him compare the Spiritual battle being fought by Christians to being in the infantry. He further compared prayer to artillery. In battle the artillery fires on the enemy for a period of time to “Soften the Battlefield”. This is meant to weaken the enemy.
No battle, physical or spiritual, should ever be entered into without first praying. Prayer will soften the enemy, soften the battlefield.
This is not only important for us personally, but corporately. When our church gathers for Watch and Pray part of what we are doing is softening our enemies so that they can be defeated in the spiritual and the natural.
Do not let what is going on around you frighten you. God has made you a mighty warrior. Be prepared and trained up. Put on the whole armor of God and battle with what God has put in your hands. For God has already given us the victory.
